How to Improve our
Education System
QUESTION..?
The question that should come in our mind is What is Education before we focus on how to improve it. So, in my opinion, education is something that gives us knowledge and enlightens our experience. For a layperson, it is a process of promoting and gaining knowledge, art, values, habits, and much more.
In Pakistan, the rate of graduating students from high school as well as from university is increasing despite the fact that the students will accomplish little if they do not learn something that lasts longer. Prior to this all the government efforts over several years to increase the number of students rather than improving the quality of education they receive. By focusing on the graduation rates is ignoring the fact that the quality of education which students get in their respective institution has been declined for past decades and it will continue to get worse if the officials do not take necessary measures to improve the quality of education and our education system.
If we talk about Pakistan, the right to education is written within the constitution of Pakistan article 25-A states:
“The state should provide free and compulsory education to all the children of age five to sixteen years in such a manner as may be determined by the law”. (“The constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 2012”).
Education is a very big issue in Pakistan each province showed progress for the development of reforms to their education system but the implementation of those reforms is a very extensive challenge. A few of those reforms can be implemented and efforts have been shown to improve the education system and we admire the effort for making it to this level. But unluckily major challenges become a hurdle and they are locking our way to reach the end goal.
The way forward
We still have the hope that our education system can be improved if necessary measures are taken. In this regard: there are several recommendations that is mainly focused on primary and secondary education levels of Pakistan which are as follows:
Recommendation-1
Quality of Teaching and Learning
While supporting teaching and learning is important, it’s also important to stress that both processes are often continually iterated and improved on. One of the key ways is to try to do is often for examination bodies to supply regular feedback to colleges within the sort of comprehensive, systematic analysis of faculty achievements and results.
This feedback could potentially compare the performance of every institution with others and offer an interpretation of those results alongside suggestions on areas where the varsity could be ready to improve.
Collectively, data from multiple schools could even be relevant to larger education departments because it illustrates trends in both student’s understanding also as teacher performance across a good selection of faculties.
Recommendation-2
Homework Quality Element
Since teachers play a pivotal role in translating the set curriculum within the classroom to realize learning outcomes, there must be ongoing support provided to teachers that ought to be focused on content and pedagogical approaches. This includes learning through classroom observation to spot areas where a teacher’s approach is often learned from or, alternatively, improved. Emphasis must even be placed on developing engaging and interactive classrooms that increase student interest and participation within the material, which directly affects students’ learning and performance on examinations.
Teachers however favor homework for a number of reasons. They believe that it fosters a sense of responsibility and promotes the academic achievements of students. They however note that homework provides a valuable review and practice for college kids while giving teachers feedback on areas where students may have more support. Finally, the teachers value homework as to how to stay parents connected to the varsity and their children’s educational experiences.
While students, to mention the smallest amount, might not always relish the idea of doing homework, by high school most come to believe there is a positive relationship between doing homework and doing well in school. Both higher and lower achievers lament “busywork” that it doesn’t promote learning.
Recommendation-3
Choosing Faculty
The seeds of such a change exist already through the proliferation of instructors who aren’t on the tenure track but are hired on a year-to-year basis or a somewhat long run to show basic undergraduate courses. Those adjunct instructors now constitute the maximum amount as 70 percent of all college instructors.
These faculty members would be better trained in teaching and learning than the present research-oriented faculty, although tenured professors who wish to show introductory or general education courses would, of course, be welcome to try to do so. Being chiefly engaged in teaching, they could even be more inclined to experiment with new and better methods of instruction if they were encouraged to try to do so.
Recommendation-4
Research Need
Existing research suggests that better advising and other sorts of student support may substantially enhance the effect of increased aid in boosting the numbers of scholars who complete their studies. With billions of dollars already being spent on student grants and loans, it might clearly be helpful to understand more about the way to maximize the consequences of such subsidies on graduation rates.
More work is required to develop better ways for colleges to live student learning, not just for critical thinking and writing but also for other purposes of undergraduate education.
All these reforms could do tons to enhance the standard of education system also increase levels of attainment. With more research and experimentation, other useful ideas will doubtless still appear.
Recommendation-5
Support Teaching and Learning
Intuitively, the primary step towards building a better education system in Pakistan is supporting academia. This will be accomplished primarily by following the National Curriculum of Pakistan and developing syllabi supported it. The syllabi should be equipped to form the use of achievable Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs), which clearly define what a student’s takeaway from each topic on any given subject should be.
The syllabus, thus, is a guide for both students and teachers to work out what material they need to cover as a part of their learning and prevents reliance on one textbook. Moreover, this measure allows for a totally transparent playing field that charts an entire course of studies, ensuring students will always remember of what material they’re going to be assessed on.
Recommendation-6
Ensure Quality of Examinations
To ensure the quality of examination papers, a top-quality assurance process of examination development is important. This process should make sure the complete alignment with the syllabus, and guarantee fairness and a linear increase in difficulty during the event of papers themselves. Processes must be developed to make sure the examination is measuring a student’s ability beyond knowledge like understanding of the concepts, its application, problem-solving, etc. Frequent repetition of equivalent questions over the years, allows an area for students to rote learns responses; therefore, this practice should be minimized.
Furthermore, it’s imperative to make sure that there’s fairness to the whole student body within the construction of examinations, which means that the various backgrounds and circumstances faced by students are considered. as an example, if students from urban cities tend to outperform students from rural regions, it’s unfair to construct examinations which will pose more of a challenge to the previous at the danger of unfairly putting the latter at a big disadvantage.
Conclusion
Ultimately, the foremost important factor towards the development of education in Pakistan may be a collaborative effort on multiple levels between stakeholders, the general public and personal sectors, and various educational bodies. There must be an acknowledgment on a national level that improving education may be a long-term investment, which the way forward will demand an excellent deal of investment before seeing returns.
